Our mission is to have Christ living in us, bringing the kingdom of God to the world for the world’s sake!
What does that mean? What does that look like? Well, for starters, it looks a lot like the Christ who served out of his deep compassion. The little introduction on our Home Page, "Love Is Spoken Here…", is actually quite sufficient in defining our mission, but we want to say a little more about our church and our understanding of who and what we are:
- Since the church is the ‘body’ of Christ and Jesus is truly the ‘Head’ of the body, then our Mission Statement may be carefully worded by us, but it is not really defined by us! Our task as members of his body is to faithfully understand, faithfully submit to, and faithfully carry out the will and desires of the head. His mission is our mission. Colossians 1:8-20
- Since the church is the ‘flock’ of God and Jesus is the ‘Good Shepherd’, it is not for us to guide our own steps or set our own direction. We are called to faithful response. Our task is to listen faithfully for his voice; to humbly and courageously follow where he leads. His mission is our mission. John 10:11; John 10:14
- Since his mission is our mission, since his heart and character is to be our heart and character, we spend a lot of time studying the story of Jesus in the Gospels. We also talk a lot about what the rest of the New Testament says about him because the church is to find its identity and purpose in him. Jesus promised his disciples that, through our faith in him, the Spirit of God would be given to us and that the Spirit would teach us what we need to know and remind us of what Jesus taught. Matthew 11:28-29; John 14:26-27; Philippians 2:5-8
- Our mission is to have Christ living in us, bringing the kingdom of God to the world for the world’s sake! Galatians 2:20
We must confess we still have a long way to go in all of this, but we’re praying that God will help us accomplish His purposes, We’re also hoping and praying that once you have seen the Good Lord and considered the Good News he brought into a world filled with so much bad news, you might consider lending us a hand.
